چکیده

A humidification system is described for use in neonatal ventilator treatment with the child placed in an incubator. By means of a temperature-controlled draw-over humidifier and a thermocouple in the inspiratory tube, it is possible to control the content of water vapour in the inspired gases and to calculate the humidity in percentage of the humidity in the lungs during controlled and spontaneous ventilation. At the same time it has been possible to eliminate the risk of water condensation in the inspiratory tube inside the incubator. During 3 months ventilator treatment of 26 neonates with the respiratory distress syndrome, each being ventilated for more than 24 hours, the humidity was kept consistendy above 70 per cent of body humidity for 1,792 hours, in which period three tubes became plugged. During 417 hours ventilation with a humidity below 70 per cent seven tubes became plugged. The impression was gained diat most of the tracheal secretions were transported alongside the tube to the pharynx, and in most cases frequent tracheal suction was consequently not necessary.

Membrane humidification--a new method for humidification of respiratory gases in ventilator treatment of neonates.

A humidifier system for neonatology that functions according to the 'membrane humidification' principle was subjected to a performance test in our laboratory. Humidification and heating of the respiratory gases took place in a module consisting of a net of hollow fibres placed inside the incubator. In 18 measurement combinations flow, respiratory gas temperature, and incubator temperature were ...

Comparison of the Therapeutic Effects of Bubble CPAP and Ventilator CPAP on Respiratory Distress Syndrome in Premature Neonates

Background: Respiratory distress syndrome is one of the main complications associated with low birth weight, and a main cause of mortality in premature neonates. The present study aimed to compare the efficacy of ventilator continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) and bubble CPAP in the treatment of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in premature neonates. Methods: This randomized controlled...

Effect of Bubble and Ventilator-derived Continuous Positive Airway Pressure on the Management of Respiratory Distress Syndrome in Premature Neonates

Background: In this study, we aimed to compare ventilator-derived and bubble continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) in neonates with respiratory distress syndrome admitted to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Vali-e-Asr Hospital, Birjand, Iran, in 2014. Methods: This cohort study was conducted among 68 patients assigned into two groups. The neonates in group A (32 infants) were treated with b...

Clinical Assessment of Nursing Care Regarding Prevention of Ventilator-associated Pneumonia in Neonates

Background: Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is the second common nosocomial infection in NICUs leading to some complications. Nurses are one of the main resources in health care that directly influence neonatal health care. Responsibility of most of preventive strategies related to VAP complications lies with nurses; therefore, nursing care should be assessed until the nurses show standar...
